The Varonis development team is continuously making improvements and adding new functionality to the Varonis SaaS Data Security Platform. Particularly, this summer Varonis has introduced many exciting new features in its latest update release.
AI Classification
Varonis has further expanded its already industry-leading data classification capabilities with the addition of AI powered classification. With AI classification, Varonis can automatically discover, learn and categorise different types of customers specific data. The AI data classification works in conjunction with the already built-in Varonis data classification rules identifying data such as GDPR, PCI and PII to enhance the precision of classification results.
Having accurate classification results allows organisations to understand where their most critical data lives, prioritise any remediation efforts required for any overexposure of data and enforce any DLP policies.
Privacy Automation
Privacy Automation (PA) is a very clever new tool, which acts as a search engine across a customer’s data to assist with data queries and data content searches. Very importantly, PA can help Compliance Managers to find personal data and therefore to be able to fulfil DSARs (Data Subject Access Requests) and data deletion requests. The exact location of this data will be returned, whether it’s located in cloud or on-premise, and these results can be exported if this information requires to be passed on to another department.
In my opinion, the functionality of this new feature is the Varonis SaaS-equivalent of DatAnswers in Varonis 8.6, the self-hosted version of the Data Security Platform. Many customers already find DatAnswers very useful, so it’s rather nice to see capabilities like this come to life in Varonis SaaS too.
Multi-Tenant Data Labelling
Many companies rely on and/or are in the process of implementing Microsoft Purview labels. Varonis SaaS can enhance the reliability of these by utilising the results of its classification engine to ensure the correct labelling is applied. This has been improved as data labelling can now work with multiple-tenants.
Lots of businesses, often larger ones, may have a separate parent company, multiple business units, or multiple subsidiaries all operating together. Different tenants may be used within the whole business, all of which may require to work with Varonis. Multi-tenant labelling allows customers with these complex internal structures to apply different label rule sets to different tenants and allows these to be visible all within one single Varonis Web Interface. As an example, it could be that two business units require different labels for their data that has been identified as personal data or PII data. The first business unit may wish for the Purview label of “Sensitive’’ to be added to this PII data, however the second business unit, holding higher levels of security, might require the Purview label of ‘‘Classified’’ to be added to these files.
MDDR Dashboard
The new Varonis MDDR service now comes with a high-level executive dashboard. The Managed Data Detection and Response is a 24/7, 365 day service delivering customers Varonis alerts to be investigated, triaged and responded to by the Varonis team of cyber experts.
The dashboard provides high-level overview and key insights on the incident response activity. Information such as number of alerts investigated, escalated and closed and total amount of hours saved with the MDDR services can be seen here.
